Target

I love the end of every season at Target because they have a ton of stuff on clearance. When you have a ton of clearance merchandise and Target coupons, you can get some great deals. There was recently a news story about Target shorting customers on their coupons: Target's system would automatically adjust down the amount of a coupon if it was worth more than one item. For example, if you had a $2.00 off 2 boxes of cereal coupon and one of those boxes was less than $2.00, Target would only give you the amount of one box. That means when they send in that coupon to the manufacturer, they're getting the full value of the coupon and pocketing the difference. Who knows if they were actually aware of this glitch in their computers, but watch your coupons to make sure they are all taken off because otherwise Target could be making money off of you. Several good coupons expire 8/28, so I've made more trips than normal.

Friday night's trip:

Dove bar soap (no coupon) $2.64
Blueberries ($1 T produce coupon) $0.99

Go here to 'build' an entree and after you enter your email address at the end a coupon will pop up. There's a 50% off one entree coupon, a buy one entree get one free coupon, and a buy a drink get an entree free coupon.
Summer is the best time to get Qdoba because of their seasonal mango salsa!

Recipes

When we plan out our meals, we base it on what meat we want to eat for several days. Then I base the recipes on what's the easiest/has the fewest amount of ingredients. It's a lot cheaper here to buy a 'club pack' of meat from Wegmans rather than smaller portions. A club pack usually has about 12 chicken breasts, 8 pork chops, or 5 pounds of ground beef. We usually rotate those meats with pasta. This week we have pork chops lined up.

Honey Garlic Pork Chops

1/4 cup lemon juice
1/4 cup honey
2 tbls soy sauce
2 garlic cloves, minced
4 boneless pork chops

In a large resealable bag combine the lemon juice, honey, soy sauce and garlic; add the pork chops. Seal bag and turn to coat; refrigerate 4-8 hours. Drain and discard marinade. Grill, covered, over medium heat 12-18 minutes or until juices run clear.

Orange Pork Chops

1 tbls vegetable oil
1 lb boneless pork chops
2/3 cup orange juice
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 1/2 tbls white sugar
2 tsp water
1 tsp cornstarch

Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook pork chops until evenly brown on both sides; remove from skillet. Pour in orange juice, soy sauce and sugar. Boil for 2 minutes, scraping the bottom of pan. In a small bowl, mix together water and cornstarch, and stir in sauce. Return pork to skillet and cook briefly until thickened and heated through.

Skillet BBQ Pork Chops

1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp ginger (I've never used this)
1/8 tsp pepper
4 (1/2 inch thick) pork loin chops or steaks
1 tbls oil
1/2 cup chili sauce or ketchup (I always use ketchup)
1/4 cup soy sauce
2 tbls honey

In small bowl, combine garlic powder, ginger and pepper; blend well. Sprinkle
mixture on both sides of pork chops. (Reserve any remaining garlic powder mixture). Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Add pork chops; cook 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until browned.
In small bowl, combine chili sauce, soy sauce, honey and any remaining garlic powder mixture; blend well. Pour over pork chops. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 10 to 15 minutes or until pork chops are tender.

Coupons

This week I was pretty bummed when I read what coupons were going to be in the Sunday papers because it meant that the paper wasn't worth buying. I always look forward to the Sunday paper for its ads and coupons(actually Saturday or Sunday paper here because the Philadelphia Inquirer has the same paper and ads in both days - weird). I have been reading up online about couponing and how to get some great deals and think I've gotten off to a pretty good start. Around here, Target is my best bet to get free or next to free goods. I wish we had Publix because I hear of great deals there- and because they make my favorite cake of all time. Here's a C9 coupon we've made great use of for their socks (free) and shorts ($1) that were on sale last week. The coupon is good until September 11, so be on the lookout for C9 things to go on sale to use this with. We also have 3 huge boxes of diapers we ordered from Amazon by stacking 20% off coupons found in Parents and Parenting magazines with Amazon's 30% Subscribe and Save Subscription discount and an Amazon coupon (up to 90% off!). We plan on giving the ones we don't use as baby shower gifts. I've been frequenting the Slick Deals website for tips on great deals and coupon scenarios for stores like Target.
This Sunday's lack of newspaper was redeemed, though, with the online coupons at Coupons.com and Target websites.
Hopefully this will help someone else out and let me know if you have any questions and I can share my beginner's coupon knowledge with you.

New!

I already have a blog. Why would I want to create another one? The other one is simply to share my kids with family and friends. This one is for more than that. I hope this will become a place for me to share my journey to who I have become- "mom". That seems weird to me when I think about it or say it, but it feels right. Here I will probably post things such as my experiences with my life as it is now as a mom: babies, toddlers, cloth diapers, recipes, coupons, and the like. I would like to do some reviews and giveaways, too. I hope you follow and enjoy!
